Flapjacks!!

Do you ever wake up, with a desire to dive, into a stack of fluffy golden pillows with the luring golden syrup and melting butter on it?

I do, wake up most of my morning's craving for, a pancake breakfast. It’s the most classic and timeless breakfast. It gives us, all the good reasons to be obsessed with it.

Pancakes are made from basic staple ingredients like flour, eggs, milk, and butter. All these ingredients, together, create heaven in the mouth. That golden plate is so aesthetically appeasing to the soul. It doesn’t always have to be, a stack of pancakes, it can be a three or two. The best part about pancakes is that they can be easily influenced or moulded, the way you want them to be. They can be, blue like blueberry, a little naughty like chocolate chips, and can have a bite of crispy bacon. You can have whole wheat pancakes or oatmeal pancakes. From kids to diet freaks, every single person can eat pancakes without feeling guilty about it. The canvas is so vast that it can be eaten sweet or savory.

Around the globe, it has different names, shapes, sizes, textures and it always keeps evolving. It’s not likely that you’ll enjoy all kinds of pancakes, but the important part is that you tried them. Every culture has a unique take on pancakes. A few examples of this transcultural food are Crepes, Potato latkes, Irish boxty, Russian blini, drop scones, etc. pancakes are also known as Indian cakes, hoecakes, johnnycakes, journey cakes, buckwheat cakes, griddle cakes, and flapjacks.

Every time, I take a mouthful bite of pancakes, it simply gives me, a break from complexities of life. Here’s my take on, breaking complexities of thoughts and making the classic breakfast of all time!! It is very simple and doesn’t take ample time to make it. I have made pancakes with a twist today. Taking down my inspiration from marble cake. So, I thought why not create a pancake version of it.

Marble Pancakes (zebra pancakes)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup plain flour.
  • 4 tbsp sugar. (adjust it according to your preference)
  • 1 tsp salt.
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence.
  • 1 tsp baking powder.
  • 2 eggs.
  • ½ cup + 2 tbsp milk.
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder.
  • 2 tbsp melted butter.
  • Chocolate syrup.
  • Whipped cream. (optional)

Procedure:

  • Take a nice clean bowl, add all your flour, sugar, salt, baking powder. Mix these ingredients well with a whisk.
  • Take another clean bowl and mix in your eggs, milk, and vanilla essence together.
  • Add your wet ingredients into your dry ingredients. Mix it, till you get a smooth batter.
  • Add melted butter to the batter and mix well.
  • Now, divide the batter into two halves.
  • Add cocoa powder to one half of the batter and mix it well.
  • Take a clean frying pan and lightly grease it with butter, on a medium flame.
  • Pour the plain batter with a spoon and then pour the chocolate batter onto it with the help of a spoon. Keep alternating the batter, to get a marble effect. You have to work your way fast while doing this or else your pancake will burn from the bottom.
  • Cook your pancake until you see bubbles at the top (these bubbles are called pancake pillars) and then flip it, cook for a minute on the other side and remove it off the pan.
  • Keep repeating this process, until you have used your entire batter.
  • On a nice clean plate, stack your pancakes and top it with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. You can add toppings according to your choice.
  • You will get around 10-12 pancakes with this recipe.

While making pancakes, you don’t always have to be precise with your ingredients. Just go your with gut, while making them.

I hope you liked the recipe. If you try this out, do let me know in the comments section below.

Until then stay ‘Flippin fantastic’. Stay tuned.
