Diwali Delicacies

The ‘festival of lights’ is the most prominent celebration in India. Diwali is celebrated with much fanfare throughout the country. It is the beginning of a new year according to the Hindu culture. Every year we keep our spirits high and celebrate the good over evil. This festive season wherein, families and friends indulge in decorating home with diyas, rangoli, playing cards, and eating gazillion amount of sweets.  Diwali or any other festival is incomplete without sweets. Laddoo’s, gulab jamun, Kaju katli, soan papdi, coconut barfi, petha, halwa, and so many more. On this joyous occasion, I made “Baklava” and gave a little Indian touch to it. Baklava is characteristic of middle eastern cuisine. It is a sweet dessert made of layers of phyllo pastry filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with sugar syrup. Trick or Treat!

Hey foodies. It is here!! Halloween is here!! Every year, we all brainstorm the spookiest outfits, makeup ideas, eat a lot of candy, and wish to carve a pumpkin. Although, it is not celebrated on a large scale in India, like in the west. We all love Halloween. It gives us a Lil excuse to dress up and party with our friends and family.  ‘All hallows eve’ or ‘Halloween’ originates from the festival of Samhain among the Celts of ancient Britain and Ireland. The celebration marks the day before the Western Christian feast of ‘all saints’ and initiates the season of ‘Allhallowtide’, which lasts three days and concludes with ‘all soul’s day’. This is considered as the beginning of winter. This day is a pivotal time as the seasons' change, but, more importantly, observers believed the boundary between this world and the next becomes very thin, enabling us to connect to the dead. #Mugcakemonday - part 2

Hello foodies!  “Nothing brings people together like GOOD FOOD” Before this pandemic, we all were busy managing our fast-paced life. Out of nowhere, everything around us paused. Something, we humans never imagined off. It did take a lot of mental toll on us, as we’re still surviving this pandemic. This pandemic has taught us to be grateful. One thing I’m grateful for during hard times is having a family dinner together. It was nearly impossible for us to have at least one meal of the day together, during the pre-pandemic period. And it was this pandemic that brought us together, where everyone in the house would make something or the other for dinner. I think y’all will agree with me on this. Whenever we fight with our mom or loved ones’ they’ll make up to us with our favorite food. Hence, good is food, mood is good.  We all deserve good food.
